Aegean University Digital Library

SPECTRAtech provided equipment for the Aegean University as a part of the Digital Library of the University of the Aegean project. The project aimed to enrich the online repository through the collection, digitization and registration of rare, previously uncatalogued library tokens. For this purpose, the thorough proposal SPECTRAtech composed included equipment allowing scanning, editing and storage paired with appropriate software to enable the digitization of the material in question.

The scanning system is based on the Atiz BookDrive Pro Station that thanks to the innovative capabilities it embodies, it is considered the optimal option in this field. Unlike the majority of its counterparts, BookDrive Pro eliminates the need for page curvature correction as it produces natively flat images in the first place. The hardware approach renders any post-processing software unnecessary and significantly simplifies the process. This, combined with the ability to handle large, heavy and fragile books as well as its high Optical Character Recognition (OCR) accuracy made this scanning station the best option. Given the modular and upgradable philosophy behind its design, there was freedom of choice for the complementary camera. Based on the technical requirements Canon EOS 5D Mark III was selected, along with variable and fixed focal length lenses.

The proposal was completed by the Oracle Sun Ray i3 Client intended for viewing and registring the digital material collected together with scanners appropriate for film and microfilm scanning.
