Actions for the digital promotion of the Historical Archives - Museum of Epirus

SPECTRAtech S.A. cooperates with the Ministry of Education for the supply, transport and installation of IT equipment and software in the Historical Archive - Museum of Epirus.
SPECTRAtech S.A., in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, implemented a comprehensive digital upgrade project for the Historical Archive – Museum of Epirus, aimed at preserving, showcasing, and disseminating the history and culture of the Ioannina region. The project included the digitization of the museum’s collections, the development of advanced technological applications, the creation of multimedia content, and the supply of the necessary equipment—contributing to an enhanced museum experience and attracting public interest.

The company carried out the digitization of 19th-century archival material, which included rare manuscripts and historical documents. Since this material could not be moved outside the museum, the digitization was carried out on-site at the Historical Archive – Museum of Epirus (IAME), adhering strictly to preservation and protection standards. The digitized files were enriched with metadata based on international Dublin Core standards and Europeana specifications, allowing for easy content search and management by the public and researchers.

To manage the collections, a digital repository was developed, enabling the museum’s administrator to register, organize, and edit the content, as well as to add descriptive information. The system supports multiple users, ensuring ease of access and functionality.

To enhance the visitor experience, the company developed a mobile tour application, available for both Android and iOS. The app offers detailed information about the museum exhibits, with touchscreen-based content selection. Additionally, the app integrates the video documentaries produced as part of the project, providing a multimedia-guided tour experience. Visitors can either download the app or use the tablets provided at the museum for this purpose.

The project also included the creation of a virtual reality (VR) application, allowing visitors to explore the museum digitally and interact with its content. Within this context, 3D objects were created based on actual museum exhibits, virtual tour scenarios were developed, and VR devices were supplied, offering visitors a unique immersive experience.

SPECTRAtech S.A. also produced 30 high-resolution (4K) video documentaries featuring expert interviews and historical references, with subtitles in both Greek and English, making them accessible to an international audience.

In addition, the company developed a modern and functional website for the Historical Archive – Museum of Epirus, designed according to the latest W3C standards and international specifications. The website is responsive, ensuring smooth navigation on mobile phones and tablets, and is available in both Greek and English.

The project implemented by SPECTRAtech S.A. marked a milestone in the digital transformation of the Historical Archive – Museum of Epirus, enhancing the preservation and promotion of the region’s cultural heritage. Through a combination of traditional methods and modern technologies, the history of Epirus was presented in an engaging and accessible way to a broad audience, both in Greece and internationally. The use of digital applications, virtual reality, and multimedia content made the museum more interactive and accessible, attracting new visitor groups such as students, researchers, and tourists. At the same time, the project contributed to the region’s tourism and economic development, strengthening the cultural identity of Ioannina and showcasing the richness of its history and tradition.
